Primark, Milton Keynes (2018)

Contract Value:
Contract Period:
26 weeks
Key Factors:
Complex steelwork design and challenging logistics in installation

Multifab were appointed by Princebuild Ltd in early 2018 to carry out the 450 tonne manufacture and installation of the new Primark store at Centre MK in Milton Keynes. The works package was assigned to Execution Class 2 for CE Marking of Structural Steelwork to BS:EN1090.

The existing two floors of the redundant British Home Stores outlet were to be reutilised with strengthening and propping to take place to allow a further two floors to be added above to the store.

Given that the Centre remained fully operational, the logistics of installation have not been simple with a tower crane being strategically positioned through the centre of the existing building to ensure a 360 degree capability for all new build work. All steelwork has been pre-designed and detailed by Multifab’s in-house TEKLA draughtsmen prior to manufacture by the company’s highly skilled fabricators. Following completion of fabrication works, all materials were shipped to site via their painting contractors, for installation over a 15 week period where off-loading and installation was meticulously planned to avoid disruption to the busy retail centre.
